TV Review: Salvation Season 1 Episode 1 "Pilot" - Series Premiere [Emz]

Thursday, 11 January 2018

Finally a new post! So I have been taking a break from here but that doesn't mean I've stopped watching shows.

I have completed watching all episodes of  The Librarians so there will be no more posts on that but I have started watched a new series called Salvation. It aired of CBS in America and all episodes are currently on Netflix UK

I spotted this series on Netflix earlier this month. It stars Santiago Cabrera as Darius Tanz. Santiago is best known for portraying Isaac Mendez in Heroes and Lancelot in Merlin.

Here is the Synopsis from IMDB:
When MIT grad student Liam Cole (Charlie Rowe) discovers an asteroid is set to collide with Earth in 186 days, he joins forces with tech billionaire Darius Tanz (Santiago Cabrera) and the U.S. government to try and stop it - and together they stumble onto the greatest conspiracy never told.

Review:

I enjoyed this episode. So we start with MIT student Liam oversleeping due to him working on his algorithms all night. He is due to attend Darius Tanz's lecture and when he shows up he is barefoot - his shoes are in his backpack (which makes an impression on Darius and other students), this part really made me laugh as it happens again later in the series and it is seemingly memorable. Following this he spots a girl at a bar whilst he is with friends, that he recognizes from Darius lecture, her name is Jillian and it turns out she is not a student but a big fan of Darius.

After spending the night with Jillian,  Liam finds that one of his algorithms has works and learns there is an asteroid on a collision with earth in 186 days. Liam informs his Professor in the early hours of the morning, only to be dismissed as it is so early, he mentions he will talk about it the next day after class. The Professor is seen to be calling someone after he leaves.

After class the next day Liam goes to find his Professor as he doesn't show up for class, ok... so little unusual, He find his professors house ransacked and notices that he had left his glasses behind, which to Liam screamed trouble. He is then chased by someone and Lima manages to avoid them but ends up in an Elevator with Darius Tanz.

This is where it gets interesting, Liam informs Daruis of everything from discovering the algorithm to being chased after his professor disappears. Of course Darius recognizes him as the "shoe-less guy"

The story gets interesting from here and after going to the Pentagon and after they originally play dumb and act like they had no idea about the Asteroid, they cave in and inform Darius that they already knew about the said Asteroid. They have modified one of Darius older rockets and are soon to be testing.

Darius later shares with Liam about his Ark to save the human race if all else fails. It currently will only take 160 people (this gave me a The 100 kind of vibe, only I know it's a bit different) and eventually take them to live on Mars.

Grace Burrows (Jennifer Finnigan) the PA to the Deputy Secretary of Defense Harris Edwards becomes Darius' "inside man" after a little persuading and an emotional Valedictorian speech from her daughter.

Harris tests the modified rocket, which he informs Grace of it being a huge success, turns out to be a big failure after she asks one of the tech guys to show her the footage, he later ends up dead..

So it's all kicking off! whatever happens next it's bound to get more interesting by the minute.

Thats all for now

Till next time

What I'm Excited For - TV Edition #2 [Emz]

Saturday, 26 August 2017

So Netflix have indulged us with 2 Marvel series so far this year, but there is one more to come.

Next up is the Series that almost never existed, The Punisher.

Frank Castle AKA The Punisher appeared in Season 2 of Daredevil, so this series is a Spin-Off.

Here is the Premise:
Frank Castle is haunted and hunted after the murder of his family and becomes a vigilante known in the criminal underworld as "the Punisher", who aims to fight crime by any means necessary.
This series sounds really good and has a bit of a different theme than Daredevil.

We have Deborah Ann Woll reprising her role as Karen Page from Daredevil. But we also have some new characters.

One of which i'm intrigued by is Billy Russo. This character is portrayed by Ben Barnes. He has appeared in quite a few films and TV series but is know for playing price Caspian in the Narnia movie series.

The Series does not yet have an air date but is rumoured to be airing in November 2017, so with new series and movies airing on Fridays i'm going to guess at 17th November.

I guessed this due to Iron Fist airing on the 17th March 2017 and The Defenders airing on the 18th August 2017.

The series will have 13 episodes.

Till next time

TV Shows I'm Looking Forward To 2017-2018 #1 [Emz]

Thursday, 24 August 2017

As I've posted a few reviews lately and I will have at least two more after Saturday, I thought I'd post about what shows i'm looking forward to seeing that are coming during the 2017-2018 Season. So that is from September 2017 to August 2018

So we shall begin from 2017 then go into early 2018 for this first post. I will post again a bit later with the second half.

Fuller House - Season 3

Now there is no synopsis for this season but it will be split into 2 parts. I never watched Full House as  kid but I watched a lot of it once it was on Netflix.

I have really enjoyed both seasons so far, it is really funny!

The Third Series begins on the 22nd September 2017 on Netflix

Victoria - Series 2

So this is a series I have been enjoying. It is obviously about Queen Victoria. The first series saw her ascension to the throne and the troubles she faced, it also followed her marriage to Prince Albert.

The second series will see her become a mother and also continue her role as Queen.

I think Jenna Coleman does a brilliant job portraying Queen Victoria.

The premise is as follows:
The first series depicts the first few years of the reign of Queen Victoria, played by Jenna Coleman, from her accession to the throne at the age of eighteen, to her intense friendship and infatuation with Lord Melbourne, to her courtship and early marriage to Prince Albert (played by Tom Hughes) and finally to the birth of their first child, Victoria.
The second series will follow Victoria's struggles on managing her role as Queen with that of her duties to her husband and children.
The second series begins on the 27th August 2017 for 8 episodes followed by a Christmas Special on ITV in the UK

The Crown - Series 2

So The Crown is another Series I have been enjoying. I watched the first series when it aired on Netflix last year. It is the earlier life of Queen Elizabeth II. It starts with her marriage to Prince Philip and continues through the first so many years of her life after that and then on to her becoming Queen after the death of her father King George VI.

Here is the Premise:
The Crown traces the life of Queen Elizabeth II from her wedding in 1947 to the present day. The first season depicts events up to 1955, with Claire Foy portraying the Queen in the early part of her reign. The second season is intended to cover from the Suez Crisis in 1956 through the retirement of the Queen's third Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan, in 1963 following the Profumo affair political scandal. A third season will include Princess Margaret's five-year affair with baronet and gardening expert Roddy Llewellyn.

I really enjoyed the first series as it shows that it wasn't as easy as it may have seen for our Queen ascent to the Throne and beyond.

I feel that the cast for the show are brilliant. I knew of Claire Foy and Matt smith and quite a few others but I haddn't heard of Vanessa Kirkby but she plays the role of Princess Margret very Convincingly.

Series 2 airs on the 8th December 2017 on Netflix.

The Gifted

So this series seems interesting, Until today I didn't know an awful lot about this series but this is the Premise:
Two ordinary parents take their family on the run from the government when they discover that their children have mutant abilities, and join an underground community of mutants who have to fight to survive.
So the series stars stars Stephen Moyer, Best known for his role in True Blood, he has been cast as Reed Struker, one of the Parents.

It also stars Amy Acker and Jamie Chung.

The series Premieres in America (FOX) on the 2nd October 2017.

No UK Release date or channel has been announced yet.

Black Lightning

So, another DC comics hero receiving their own TV show on The CW in the US. This series will sit alongside, Arrow, The Flash, Legends Of Tomorrow and Supergirl.

I think it's been mentioned that it won't cross over butt i'm sure that will change at some point.

Here is the Premise:
Jefferson Pierce, who retired from his superhero persona Black Lightning nine years ago after seeing the effects it had on his family, is forced to become a hero again when the rise of the local gang The One Hundred leads to increased crime and corruption in his community.
So i'm not familiar with any names in this series except one. China Anne Mcclain portrays one of Jefferson's daughters. China has appeared in many Disney Channel shows, including the Disney Channel Original Movie this year called Descendants 2.

Now there is not release date yet for this show, but it will air in 2018 on The CW.

I wouldn't be surprised in Sky One pick up this show in the UK, they currently air all of the others.

That is all i'm posting for now.

If you know of any upcoming shows that you are looking forward to let me know

Till next time
