TV Review: Shadowhunters Season 2 Finale "Beside Still Water" [Emz]
Wednesday, 16 August 2017
Here is the synopsis of this episode:
Jace and Clary make a final stand; a traitor is revealed; Alec and Izzy have an unexpected encounter with a large mass of demons; Luke and Simon attend to some unfinished business with the Seelie Queen.
So before I continue *Spoilers!*
So this season has been based on the Mortal Instruments Books: City of Ashes and City of Glass.
Obviously, there have been many major differences throughout the series, including the death of Clary's mother Jocelyn.
So this finale is the final act of Valentine trying to rid the world of Downworlders and Shadowhunters that do not do as he wishes.
A brief explanation of the episode:
After the supposed death of Sebastian/ Jonathan (yes it's complicated) we start the episode with Maya having been captured by the Seelie Queen and Luke and Simon going to find her. Whilst the Shadowhunters are battling some very powerful demons.
Clary and Jace portal to Idris after finding out that Valentine got there with the help of the Seelie Queen. They learn that one of their own has betrayed them to work with Valentine and tries to kill Clary. Jace manages to rescue Clary but ends up being killed by Valentine.
So this is where is see the end of City of Glass kind of occur, Clary manages to free herself after being knocked out by Valentine
She manages to free herself using Jace's Stele and then fights her father before killing him. As Valentine had already raised the angel Raziel, she asks him to bring back Jace.
Review:
I really enjoyed this episode along with the whole season. The fact that the show doesn't completely follow the books leaves you guessing what is going to happen next. the fact that Clary brought back Jace keeps that theme from the City of Glass.
I can't say I was disappointed but it was all over a bit too quickly and left you with multiple cliffhangers going into the third Season.
Overall I am really excited for Season 3 to air in January 2018.
